Alignments
Poorly aligned shafts are responsible for many machine problems. Field data shows that incorrect alignment is the cause of over 50% of machine breakdowns. It is critical the centre-lines of two shafts are aligned on the same axis for optimum operational condition.
Poor machine alignment can be discovered and/or avoided with appropriate preventive maintenance. Alignment methods such as feeler gauges or straight edges certainly function simply and quickly, but don’t provide the accuracy required for modern machines. Dial gauges can achieve the necessary accuracy, but the process itself is time consuming and requires optimal surface finishes. Precise laser alignment of shafts not only saves time and money, but also benefits in the long term with reliable machine operation.
Correct shaft alignment results in:
Longer service life
Reduced vibration
Less mechanical wear
Reduced strain on the bearings
Increased life of the sealing elements
Longer machine run time
Less Impurities
Less discharge of lubricant
Reduced energy consumption
Lower repair overhead costs.
For our field alignments, we choose to use a proximity induction alignment system. This is relatively new technology using magnetic induction to give data for alignment. It is as accurate as the reflected laser counterpart. Furthermore, it isn't effected by surrounding lighting sources like laser devices. This gives it our tick of approval since many alignments we perform are not done indoors.
At R-KAE Maintenance Solutions, we consider downtime as lost income for our clients. We do everything in our power to ensure machinery is offline for the shortest time possible. Technology, matched with skilled and experienced tradespersons, means we can deliver on our promises.
